Mission Codename M by M from M?

It was just last month when their Martin Vineyard Cab sold out, naturally, we asked, begged, and pleased… what else do you have?

We have a Meritage for your Operatives they said!

Tasted it. Loved it. Locked it down. And boom - they threw in the 94 points and knocked it down by about 60% OFF.

While gathering more intel, it hit us. Here’s a classic ‘Meritage’ red from the family behind Meritage - that world-class destination in Napa Valley - that we frequent for glamorous wine events! Not only that, but the fruit is entirely from the stunning vineyard you can see from Highway 29, with that iconic statue of a winemaker pressing grapes. They also happen to own and operate four other luxury resorts in California, Texas, and Hawaii. Impressive, huh?

And you probably haven’t heard of their winemaker Kale Anderson, but you should. And you will. He’s an up-and-coming rockstar. The Sonoma native broke ground at Colgin adding Terra Valentine, Cliff Lede, and Pahlmeyer to his resume. He was one of the youngest winemakers EVER to earn 100 points from Robert Parker for the 2013 Pahlmeyer - the first perfect score awarded to Pahlmeyer in their 30-year history.

We tasted his wines at a small event over a year ago and were FLOORED. They were polished, expansive, lusciously textured, and stacked with all manner of fruit and complexity.

This one? Oh la la. It’s comprised of half Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, with the three other traditional Bordeaux grapes, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, rounding the other half out. Ripe and concentrated, with plenty of intensity in ripe cassis and redcurrant, while being spicy and herbal, with cedary oak nuances in there too. The tannins are certainly silky by now, making for a classic, impeccably put-together Meritage blend that will evolve for another decade effortlessly. The long finish begs for steaks!

And we beg for you to be fast as deals this good don’t last long around here.

94 Points – The Tasting Panel

“The grapes for this blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Malbec, 19% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 12% Petit Verdot hail from the winery’s estate vineyard at the Meritage Resort in the southern end of Napa Valley. Aged 20 months in 100% new French oak, the wine displays a regal entry of plump, ripe blueberry and plum. Mocha latte creaminess adds weight, while also enveloping the palate. Brisk acidity and spiced cedar wrap around firm tannins. A well-built wine that has had time to age shows its prowess.”
