Over twenty wines ago, Paul Maroon’s winemaking dream came to fruition with the purchase of 37 acres in Coombsville. For ten years, Paul sold his 15.8 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon to several esteemed Napa Valley wineries. This led to the realization of the vineyard’s high quality, and the first commercial vintage of Maroon Wines was produced in 2009. Paul Maroon passed away in 2019, and for several years, Renee´ Maroon oversaw the operations. In 2022, Maroon was purchased by a longtime collector, and the vineyards now enter their next chapter with a vigilant new steward.

This wine comes from the Maroon Vineyard, composed of two blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, totaling 15.8 acres. The Coombsville vineyard has unique volcanic and loam soils, as well as aspect, elevation, and maturity variations. This bottling is comprised of grapes from both 30-year-old and 9-year-old, providing a distinctive complexity. It is a little cooler in the Coombsville AVA, and the grapes benefit by being able to ripen slowly and evenly, resulting in exquisitely balanced wines.

The 2019 Maroon Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is deeply pigmented, and rich and concentrated both on the nose and on the palate. It exhibits aromas and flavors of dark purple berries, plum preserves, crushed rocks with hints of chocolate mint and candied violets. It is powerful and structured, yet elegant and refined with firm tannins, bright acidity, and a lengthy finish. This well-balanced wine will continue to develop nicely in the bottle and will enjoy a long time in the cellar.
